Rapala Countdown Sinking Lure

The Rapala plug has become iconic with predator fishing, particulary with salmonoid species. A salmon in the stream will more than often take a small 5cm Rapala lure even after someone has went through the pool with other bigger lures. Made from balsa wood the lure has an irresistible action which is enhanced only when a clip is used to attach to the line, this allows the lure to have total freedom. This lure is designed to sink about one foot per second depending on line diameter e.t.c. If the lure is to be used in a river allow for current tension and cast quite far upstream to allow the lure to sink to the appropriate depth. The rapala countdown has a lovely seductive roll that entices a lot of 'hard fished over' salmon and trout to come to the lure and take with confidence. Because of the designed angle of the lure's lip any movement on the rod tip immediately kicks the lure into life. With VMC nickled trebles this lure is designed to catch and not let go.

  • Perfect for all species
  • Quick start action
  • Super graphics
  • Rolling action
  • 1' per sec. sink
  • VMC trebles

We have been testing these lures for salmon all last year and found them to be extremely effective when the water has dropped a good bit and the pools have took a flogging by other anglers. If you happen to hit a bigger fish, say over 5lb care should be taken that the small trebles are not opened. A soft rod of 0-15g max is needed to allow the lunging action of a fish to be soaked up. The biggest fish last year on them was a Donegal fish of 12lb ! Lucky he was caught in a rocky hole up a small stream and he had nowhere really to run to.
