This weekend past 9-11May saw the beginning of the NIFSA Summer Species Hunt League, were anglers target a certain species over 48hrs with the only stipulation being that they stay in NI.
We kicked off with plaice as our first target and with calm and warm weather forecast, conditions looked perfect.
Most guys enjoyed a good weekends fishing with flounder, dab, dogs, coalie, pollack, codling and schoolie bass being caught from a lot of venues.
The plaice however had not read the script and were not about in any great numbers either on Saturday or Sunday with a lot of anglers working very hard to catch just a small one and a lot failing to catch one at all.
However plaice were caught and we got our league underway.
Top rods over the weekend were
Paul Hill 35cm
Gary Mccurry 33cm
Drew Ferguson 31cm
All the other fish recorded were between 19 and 27cm.
