We opened our first shop in 1996, just around the time that the new kid in the angling world was being introduced, Fishing Braid. At that time of the shops development we were heavily into coarse match fishing for bream roach hybrids and skimmers on big natural Irish loughs. The standard was 4lb reel line through to a 2.5lb hook length and watching the tip of the rod for a slight indication of a bite. When Fishing Braid was used for the first time, the match scene was transformed. Every little movement or even fish rubbing against the line at 80-90 metres could be picked up immediately. Until an angler got used to it more often than not they brought in the feeder minus the hook length, due to the angler being used to heavy striking with mono. The same happened throughout the angling world with anglers having to adapt to this non stretch super line. Ultra thin with no stretch has it advantages with hook ups quicker and less lead being used in boat fishing. One major disadvantage with braid is that it cannot be used near rocky ledges or reefs as it is not abrasive resistant at all.
