This weekend past saw the conclusion of our species hunt league sponsored by Penn Fishing Tackle.
In this format of competition anglers fish for a nominated species of fish within a forty-eight hour period with the only stipulations being that they are caught on rod and line, from the shore and from the N.I coastline.
The twenty eight anglers registered to compete this year faced some of the worst Summer weather we've seen in a long time with many of the competitions coinciding with unseasonal winds and rough seas which often made fishing from rocks uncomfortable if not dangerous.
The individual weekends winners were as follows:
Plaice: Paddy O'boyle 38cm
Ballan Wrasse: Gary Mccurry 47cm
Pollack: Gary McCurry 53cm
Conger Eel: Christopher Mccook 135cm
Three Bearded Rockling: Ali Wall 43cm
Coalfish: Andrew Ryder 49cm
Flounder: Christopher McCook 43cm
This year only one angler managed to complete the "full house" of target species, which along with two first place and two second place finishes makes him a worthy winner.
Our top three anglers overall winning tackle sponsored by Penn are:
1st Gary McCurry Penn Rampage Surf rod and a surfmaster 8000 reel.
2nd Christopher McCook Penn Regiment spinning rod and Spinfisher 5000 reel
3rd Paddy O'Boyle Penn Squadron spinning rod and Pursuit 5000 reel.
All of our hunt based comps are free to enter for our membership with prizes sponsored by different tackle manufacturers which is made only possible thanks to our relationship with Mckees Angling Centre and Belfast Angling Centre.
Thanks to them and on this occasion Penn for the nice prizes.
