Federation members stories: Colum Braniff

What it means to go fishing to some people? Here are a few
federation members stories and experience of the sheer enjoyment and fun you can have with fishing and joining our federation.
This first account is from a junior member of ours Colum Braniff a super up and coming angler.

For me one of the best fishing memories was getting a proper introduction into lrf , my mate had starting talking to me about it over the winter season. Up until the I only really had bait fished using spinning gear. I was interested enough to go to Harry's and grab some lrf gear to give it ago come April. Soon we set off targeting anything we could catch at a local mark, unfortunately fishing was slow and only my mate managed a small coalie which I was amazed with! So we drove 30 minutes up the coast to a new mark. I was already loving and the bug had bitten me bad! As soon as we got there I quickly tied a rather dodgy looking dropshot rig with a small bit of Isome. First cast, tap tap, I'm in I quickly reeled in a small scorpion fish I couldn't believe it I was in awe, my first lrf fish!! Before I even had it back in the water my mate had landed a small pollack first cast so I quickly changed lures to a small paddle tail, casted out then bam! pollack, I couldn't believe the fight it was giving me for such a small fish , nothing like I every experienced before, we had a fish a cast that night needless to say I was hooked!! Now I'm currently in the NIFSA learning more new tactics and competing in a species hunt which I will hopefully win and get the federations sponsored tuna trip!
