Sunday 9th June saw leg 4 of our shore league on the River Roe ( Carrowclare Embankment) at Lough Foyle. This is a "marmite" venue where fresh peeler is usually a must have so we were down on the number of anglers in attendance but certainly not on fish. Here's our recorders report.
Venue: River Roe 1000hrs-1500hrs
Tide/sea-state: Fishing full drop on a "slappy" coloured estuary.
Weather: Very windy north westerlies blowing right into our faces which dropped off after a couple of hours allowing the rain clouds to slow down enough to drench us for three hours.
Species caught: flounder and silver eel.
Notes: Top zone fished the better with serious bags of fish landed for a daylight match fishing 18cm. The flounder were all in pristine condition with big fat bellies. Strangely there were little to no crab stripping our baits which allowed a bit of angling with worm baits.
Zone A
1st Paddy O'boyle 29 fish 749pts
2nd Drew Ferguson 15 fish 407pts
3rd Colin Reilly 15 fish 348pts
4th Gareth Bell 12 fish 330pts
Zone B
1st Christopher Mccook 37 fish 996pts
2nd Andrew Logan 24 fish 610pts
3rd Paul Hill 21 fish 555pts
4th Diarmaid Adams 20 fish 550pts
Longest fish 37cm flounder Chris McCook.
Cash was paid for 1st, 2nd and longest fish. Tackle sponsored by Daiwa was given for 3rd and 4th.
Well done to the prize winners. It's often a lament that a venue is "peggy" but it takes a good angler to pull 20 plus fish off a mark like the Roe in horrible slippy conditions like today. 37 fish on a daylight venue in same conditions is unbelievable.
