This weekend past saw the Ballan Wrasse leg of our Summer species hunt.
The poor old wrasse have taken an absolute hammering this past few years on the East Antrim coast line as they are being targeted commercially to ultimately be used as cleaner fish in the salmon nets in Scotland where their life expectancy isnt that long, creating a constant need for new fish.
This year was probably the poorest show of Ballans we have had in the four years that we have held the species hunt. Some guys fished various venues between Larne and Waterfoot for up to nine hours with no wrasse showing.
Nevertheless there were fish recorded with North Antrim venues throwing up some nice specimens.
Top rods were
Gary Mccurry 47cm
William Cairns 45cm
Christopher Mccook 36cm
Paddy O'boyle 36cm
Well done folks.
Our next species will be Pollack and thankfully theres still a few of those kicking about.
