This weekend was the free to enter longest plaice/coalie combination hunt with prizes sponsored by NIFSA.
We couldn't have picked a worse weekend with most of the bays in the north heavily flooded with fresh water and wind speeds and direction weren't exactly what you would equate with summer rock angling😂.
There were stories of Pollack, ballans, corkwings, dogs, scorpions and even a long range conger from Alan King Rag Martin but the target species were hard won.
However a few anglers managed to wrangle out both species with the results as follows.
1st Stephen Hodge 26cm coalie 32cm plaice (wins Penn Spinfisher vi 7500 reel)
2nd/3rd Diarmaid Adams 33cm coalie 21cm plaice.
Barry Platt Platt 35cm coalie and 19cm plaice.
Barry and Dairmaid will toss a coin to see who gets first choice of either a Mitchell Suprema 3.0 Sirfmaster or Senso Beach multi tip.
Deborah Withers is in charge of the coin toss because she forgot to hand her peg in at last match.
We also had prizes for longest individual coalie and plaice outside of the "podium finish".
Longest coalie 42cm was Kenny Bodles who lifts a Kenitic Brutalis fixed spool rod.
We had a tie of 24cm for longest plaice between Paul Hill and Jonathan Gilbert but Paul edges it with a bigger coalie and wins an AKIOS Fury fx8 fixed spool reel.
A tough weekend weather and fishing wise but better than sitting in the house (apparently).
