13 March, 2017No cod showed up this year around Youghal and anglers were wondering why. Well possibly the reason was that the main feed for them was not there this year. Tons and tons of all fishes staple diet, the green crab, are being potted for the French perfume and soup business with commercial fishermen getting a reported 70 cent a kilo. I think if you were to work out the difference in revenue for Youghal town between visiting anglers overstaying in guest houses and drinking in the local pubs etc, and the destructive practise of the commercial, it would be a no brainer. Again, short term gain and disaster over long term steady economy and sustained environment. Picture supplied by Alan Mulcahy.
