This weekend passed saw the start of our annual Summer Species Hunt League

This weekend passed saw the start of our annual Summer Species Hunt League were anglers target one particular species over a 48hr period with the only stipulation being that the target fish are caught on rod and line within N.I.
This weekend the target fish was plaice with most anglers venturing to the beaches and rocky outcrops in the Redbay area.
Redbay has always held large numbers of this species but unfortunately not to the specimen size of twenty years ago.
Nevertheless there were fish caught with a good selection of other species in the mix as well, including codling, pollack, flounder, ballans, corkwings, coalfish, dogfish and sea scorpions which was nice to see so early in the year.
Twenty-one of our thirty entrants registered fish on our closed page with top three rods being
Paddy O'boyle 38cm
Gary Mccurry 37cm
Barry Platt 34cm
Six other anglers broke the 30cm mark which is good going
Christopher Mccook 33cm
Mike Henry 32cm
Lee Mullan 32cm
Paul Hill 32cm
Martin O'boyle 30cm
Karl McCullough 30cm
This is an encouraging sign with the Summer still so young.
