Description
Shimano Stradic FL Fixed Spool Reel
The Shimano Stradic FL is one of Shimano's flagship reels and is a highly appreciated spinning reel which is used by thousands of anglers, all over the world. This is a strong and reliable workhorse which is sure to not let you down!
This reel is the successor to the FK and boasts some exciting new features. 1. Rotation Smoothness (MicroModule II, Silent Drive) which makes this reel very smooth. 2. Durability (Increased Hagane Gear strength, X Protect) 3. Casting Performance (Long stroke spool). This proposition makes the Stradic FL the ideal ‘all-round’ spinning reel. Features such as this are found in Shimano's top end end reels such as the Sustain and the Stella.
The Hagane drive gear system provides long-lasting smoothness, strength, lightness and power at the very at the very heart of the reel. Traditional die-cast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads.
Additionally, the Hagane body is made from high-rigidity aluminium. This creates stiffness and impact resistance, while at the same time eliminating flexing of the body. This results in rock solid housing and support for moving internal gearing and greater efficiency throughout the reel.
In regards to the XShip technology, this is a combination of different features which work together to create much greater efficiency. By positioning the pinion gear close to the centre line of the large diameter drive gear, more power is transferred from the handle to the rotor. In addition to that, the pinion gear is also supported by two Shimano ARB roller bearings which creates increased stability.
The Silent Drive feature removes the clicking sound and provides you with an overall improved reel feeling. On top of that, the Long Stroke Spool has a longer stroke in comparison to conventional spool designs. With the longer stroke specification, this provides anglers with greater casting distance.
Shimano’s ARC spool is a patented spool design with an angled spool lip, the design allows the line to leave the spool with reduced friction and in smaller coils which enables longer and more accurate casts. ARC spools have proven to reduce backlash and wind when you are using braid.
This reel incorporates G Free technology which has been developed to shift the reel’s centre gravity closer to the rod. Shimano have achieved this by moving the worm shaft oscillation mechanism 19mm from the bottom of the reel to the top. By moving the centre of gravity closer to the anglers hand position, the G Free Body greatly helps to reduce fatigue and to enhance casting comfort.
The reel also features XProtect technology. With XProtect, the contact type triple-lip structure is introduced to the roller clutch, the pivotal point concerning water resistance. Within this structure, the first lip prevents water from entering through the space located between the rotor and the body.
Additionally, the special grease between the second and third lip where it makes contact with the rotor collar located at the upper part of the roller clutch not only resists water from entering but it also minimises friction resistance. However, it does this without jeopardising the silky smooth rotation capacity, the vital feature of STELLA SW, exceptional water resistance, has been achieved to withstand the crashing and splashing of waves and spray.
The one piece bail wire has no gap for line to snag on during normal operation. It has been made from stainless steel, it reduces friction and allows the line to get onto the line roller quicker.
Shimano have added features to this reel which are typically found in higher priced reels and they have done this without raising the retail price!
Furthermore, this reel can be used for any type of freshwater fishing and is very suitable for ways of fishing where reliability and strength are important (river fishing, big fish and bigger lures). On top of that, this reel is the ideal choice for saltwater inshore fishing. This is a versatile range with various different sizes and gear ratios.
There are various models within this range, the HG stands for High Gear whereas the XG stands for Extra High Gear whereas the MHG model features a Medium Spool so it has a shallower spool.
